TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia visited flood-hit areas in Bireuen Regency, Aceh, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, to supervise efforts to repair the region’s damaged power infrastructure following days of flooding and strong winds.
Bahlil said electricity for Banda Aceh and western Aceh is expected to be fully restored by Friday or Saturday.
“I know the terrain is difficult, but this is a call to serve the country. Let’s accelerate tower repairs and restore power as soon as possible,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday.
During the visit, Bahlil inspected one of the transmission towers on the Bireuen to Arun route that had collapsed and instructed state-owned electricity company PLN to speed up repairs. He emphasized that the route is one of Aceh’s main electricity corridors, which makes swift restoration critical.
Bahlil noted that PLN has prepared emergency towers that can be installed within two days to reconnect electricity from the Arun and Naganraya power plants. Once the temporary towers are in place, engineers will begin reconnecting the cables.
PLN reported that 12 transmission towers on the 150 kV network were damaged across the Bireuen to Arun, Brandan to Langsa, and Peusangan to Bireuen routes.
The outages affected more than 10 regencies and cities, including Banda Aceh, Lhokseumawe, East Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, North Aceh, and South Aceh.
Restoration efforts have shown steady progress. Out of 263 disabled substations, 153 or 58.2 percent have resumed operation. A total of 6,844 of 9,669 distribution substations have been reactivated, while the restored electricity load has reached 173.05 MW or 69.8 percent.
So far, 727,735 customers, representing 69.7 percent of those affected, have regained access to electricity.
