Indonesia Approves Repatriation of Two Dutch Convicts

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has approved the repatriation request of two convicts involved in narcotics cases from the Netherlands, Siegfried Mets, 73 years old, and Ali Tokman, 64 years old.

Both of them are convicts involved in narcotics cases. Siegfried has been sentenced to death and is currently held at Class I Cipinang Penitentiary. Meanwhile, Ali has been sentenced to life imprisonment. "There has been a green light from our government to repatriate these two individuals to the Netherlands," said Coordinating Minister for Legal, Political, and Security Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights office on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Yusril mentioned that there are five Dutch citizens currently serving criminal sentences in Indonesia. However, only Siegfried Mets and Ali Tokman have been requested for repatriation.

The other three Dutch nationals, namely PMA, 66 years old, involved in a corruption case and sentenced to 19 years in prison; HG, 61 years old, convicted of murder and sentenced to 14 years; and DHG, 54 years old, convicted of fraud and sentenced to 2 years and 3 months.

Siegfried was involved in the shipment of 600,000 ecstasy pills from the Netherlands to Indonesia, specifically to Tanjung Priok Port in February 2008. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police handled the case.

Meanwhile, Ali Tokman was accused of carrying 6,145 grams of brownish-colored Methylene Dioxy Meth Amphetamine (MDMA) with a dirty weight valued at Rp17.2 billion. A Dutch citizen of Turkish descent was arrested by customs officers at Juanda International Airport on December 12, 2014.
