TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia emerged as the overall champion of the Australian Open 2025 after securing two titles at the BWF Super 500 tournament held at Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday, November 23, 2025. The remaining three titles went to players from Malaysia, India, and South Korea.
Indonesia’s strong performance was already evident in Saturday’s semifinals, where six representatives advanced to the finals. The results set up all-Indonesian showdowns in both the men’s and women’s doubles categories, while two other Indonesian players competed in the mixed doubles and women’s singles finals.
In the women’s doubles, Rachel Allessya Rose / Febi Setianingrum clinched the title after outlasting Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma / Meilysa Trias Puspitasari in a marathon match that lasted 1 hour and 49 minutes. The tightly contested final ended 21-18, 19-21, 21-23, handing Rachel / Febi their first Super 500 crown since they were paired in September 2024.
The defeat denied Febriana a chance to defend her 2024 Australian Open title, which she won with partner Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi. Despite showing early dominance, Febriana / Meilysa were unable to maintain their momentum in the deciding moments of the final two games.
In the men’s doubles final, rising stars Raymond Indra / Nikolaus Joaquin captured their maiden Super 500 title with a 20-22, 21-10, 18-21 victory over senior pair Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.
Indonesia fell short in the remaining finals. In mixed doubles, Jafar Hidayatullah / Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, seeded second, were defeated in straight games by top-seeded Malaysians Chen Tang Jie / Toh Ee Wei, 21-16, 21-11. The loss marked Jafar / Felisha’s fifth consecutive defeat to the Malaysian pair.
In the women’s singles final, Putri Kusuma Wardani, seeded second, could not overcome world No. 1 An Se Young, who prevailed 21-16, 21-14. Putri showed resilience in both games but struggled to match the South Korean star’s pace after the mid-game intervals.
The men’s singles was the only final without an Indonesian player. India’s Lakshya Sen, the seventh seed, clinched the title after defeating Japan’s Yushi Tanaka 15-21, 11-21.
