TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia finished as runner-up at the IFCPF Asia Oceania Cerebral Palsy Football Championship 2025 after a 0-2 defeat to Iran in the final at Sriwedari Stadium, Solo, on Saturday night, November 22, 2025.

Iran secured the title with goals from Amirhossein Ghorbani in the 15th minute and Alireza Ahmadimoghadam in the 33rd.

Indonesia’s head coach, Yanuar Dhuma Ardhiyanto, said the team’s performance was a source of pride. Entering the tournament as underdogs, Indonesia exceeded expectations by reaching the final, especially against Iran, the reigning champion from the 2024 edition.

“It was an extraordinary match. The team fought until the end,” Yanuar said, as quoted in an NPC Indonesia statement.

He added that Indonesia managed to pressure Iran, particularly in the second half. While his side failed to convert their chances, Iran capitalized on two key opportunities and held a solid defensive line to protect their lead.

As finalists, Indonesia earned a berth at the 2026 IFCPF World Cup. “Now we have a benchmark for facing the world champions. We will continue to improve our quality ahead of the World Cup,” Yanuar added.

He also expressed gratitude for the strong home support in Solo, noting that fans had backed the team from the opening match through to the final.

Iranian Team: “A Difficult Final”

Iran captain Hassan Safari said the match against Indonesia was far from easy. He welcomed the chance to retain the title Iran won in Melbourne in 2023.

“Of course we are happy to keep the championship we won two years ago,” he said. “But this final was very difficult. Indonesia has excellent game organization.”

Safari also praised the host nation’s rapid progress in cerebral palsy football. “We are glad to see a new competitive team emerging in the Asia Oceania region,” he said.

National Paralympic Committee Indonesia (NPC Indonesia) Chairman Senny Marbun praised the squad for reaching the 2025 final and securing a place at next year’s World Cup.

He said the committee would continue supporting the team’s preparations for the global tournament. “I promise that Indonesia will put up an extraordinary fight at the 2026 World Cup in the United States,” Senny said.
