TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The draw for the AFF U-17 Cup 2026 was conducted in Jakarta on Friday, March 6, 2026. As a result, the Indonesian U-17 national team, as the host, has been placed in Group A alongside Malaysia, Timor Leste, and Vietnam.
"We are grateful for the draw results, as we will be facing our arch-rivals, Malaysia. Surely the spectators are also excited to see us play against Malaysia," said Executive Committee (Exco) member of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), Muhammad Sungkar, in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Friday, March 6, 2026.
Indonesia will compete against Malaysia, Timor Leste, and Vietnam to secure a spot in the semifinals. "Our next target is to advance to the next phase," said Muhammad.
The AFF U-17 Cup will mark the debut of Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto as the coach of the Indonesian U-17 national team. Previously, the Young Garuda squad was coached by Nova Arianto during two friendly matches against China on February 8 and 11.
The AFF U-17 Cup is scheduled to take place at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium and Joko Samudro in Gresik, East Java. The age-group tournament is set to be held from April 11-23.
Indonesia is aiming to win the 17th edition of the AFF U-17 Cup, after two previous wins in 2018 and 2022 when they were the host country. At that time, the tournament was still competed in the U-16 category. The most titles have been won by Thailand, Vietnam, and Australia, each winning three times.
