TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia, through the Ministry of Forestry, has joined The Coalition to Grow Carbon Markets. The move aims to bolster global climate financing while representing Indonesia's forestry sector and nature-based solutions.

"It is an honor to announce that the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia has joined The Coalition to Grow Carbon Markets, representing Indonesia's forestry sector," said Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026.

Raja Juli stated that the coalition is committed to expanding the use of high-integrity carbon credits to unlock development financing, support economic activity, and accelerate global climate goals. As the newest member, the minister noted that Indonesia contributes expertise in forest-based carbon projects and nature-based solutions.

The high-integrity carbon credit market holds immense potential to support nature-based solutions in Indonesia, reduce emissions, preserve biodiversity, and drive green growth.

"As a country with the world's third-largest tropical rainforest, extensive mangrove ecosystems, and vast tropical peatlands, Indonesia possesses significant natural capital and practical experience in nature-based solutions, which can contribute meaningfully to global climate targets," said Raja Juli.

The Coalition to Grow Carbon Markets aims to accelerate global emission reductions by strengthening incentives for businesses to invest in high-integrity carbon credits, including those supporting nature-based solutions.

Indonesia joins 10 other members committed to advancing climate action by increasing corporate utilization of high-integrity carbon credits. These members include Canada, France, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, New Zealand, Zambia, the coalition co-chairs Kenya, Singapore, and the UK.

Currently, the coalition is focused on action plans to implement consistent national and regional policies. It also seeks to sustain buyer interest through engagement with investor and buyer networks.

"Indonesia’s efforts in nature-based solutions will ensure the coalition helps drive private sector investment into high-integrity projects that preserve forests, reduce emissions, and advance sustainable development," said UK Special Representative for Climate Rachel Kyte.

As a long-term partner of both the UK and Indonesia, Standard Chartered actively participates in sustainable finance, including supporting the development of high-integrity carbon credit markets in Indonesia.

Donny Donosepoetro, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Indonesia, said Indonesia's participation will help raise standards for quality, transparency, and demand within the high-integrity carbon credit market. "Especially those that support nature-based solutions," Donny added.
