TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 128,247 joint personnel are deployed nationwide in response to potential hydrometeorological disasters as extreme weather rages in various Indonesian regions. Jakarta, among other regions, has been seeing heavy rainfall that led to floods.

Head of the Public Information Bureau at the Indonesian National Police (Polri), Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, emphasized the deployment is nationwide, not contained in Jakarta. "The National Police, together with the military and related agencies, have mobilized full force to ensure public safety and expedite disaster impact management,' Trunoyudo said in a written statement on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

The joint personnel being deployed include 71,012 National Police officers, 13,291 military personnel, 8,290 Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) members, 4,022 National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) personnel, 8,979 Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) personnel, and 22,653 personnel from other elements.

"The officers stand ready to support victim evacuation, secure the area, distribute aid, provide healthcare services, and facilitate integrated post-disaster recovery," he said.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning on Thursday, January 22, 2026, for moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and strong wind in Jakarta, Banten, West Java, and several other regions. As the condition brings flood threats, residents are advised to remain vigilant, especially in flood-prone areas and riverbanks.

In his statement, Trunoyudo urged the public not to force their way through submerged routes. In addition, the public is also asked to follow the instructions of authorities and prioritize their own and their family's safety. "In emergency situations, the public is also directed to contact the 110 call center," he said.
