TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has reaffirmed its support for the New York Declaration adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, September 12, 2025. The resolution outlines concrete steps to advance a two-state solution for Palestine and Israel.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said in a written statement on Monday, September 15, that Indonesia’s stance remains unchanged.

“Indonesia consistently supports all UN efforts that strengthen global recognition of Palestine. For us, international recognition is crucial to ensure Palestine has an equal position in the peace process,” Nabyl said.

Indonesia’s Diplomatic Steps

Nabyl emphasized that Indonesia will continue coordinating with other countries and international organizations to build momentum for Palestinian statehood and press for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

He highlighted Indonesia’s role at the Extraordinary Ministerial Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on August 25, 2025.

At the forum, Indonesia and fellow Islamic nations strongly rejected Israel’s plans for large-scale permanent occupation of Palestinian territories and its annexation agenda for Gaza.

Beyond diplomacy, Nabyl also underlined Indonesia’s humanitarian commitment.

“Indonesia remains committed to providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, including readiness to evacuate patients in urgent need of treatment, as requested by the WHO Director-General,” he said.

UN Resolution and Global Response

According to Al Jazeera, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution with 142 votes in favor, 10 against, including Israel and the United States, and 12 abstentions.

The seven-page document, initiated by France and Saudi Arabia, calls for collective action to halt the war in Gaza and pursue a just and lasting resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict through the implementation of a two-state solution.

The strong backing at the UN came just a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that there would never be a Palestinian state and approved further settlement expansion in the West Bank.

The New York Declaration also paves the way for the UN High-Level Conference on September 22, 2025, in New York.

The forum, co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France, will be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and several other world leaders. Macron and other heads of state are expected to pledge formal recognition of Palestinian statehood.
