TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir participated in the 27th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of MIKTA (MIKTA FMM) in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Thursday, February 20, 2025. This meeting, held alongside the G20 foreign ministers' meeting, provided an opportunity to reinforce MIKTA's role in addressing global challenges.

MIKTA is a group comprised of five G20 member nations: Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkiye, and Australia.

The MIKTA FMM also served as a platform for the transfer of MIKTA chairmanship from Mexico to South Korea. Arrmanatha expressed his appreciation for Mexico's leadership during its year as chair.

During the meeting, Arrmanatha stressed the critical need for more inclusive and responsive global governance reform.

"Multilateralism is used often only when it is beneficial. MIKTA must be at the forefront in promoting a more adaptive and effective global governance," stated Arrmanatha, as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

In the meeting sessions, MIKTA foreign ministers agreed that the current multilateral system is not adequately responding to global challenges. Consequently, MIKTA must continue to advocate for the implementation of the UN Pact for the Future as part of efforts to strengthen the multilateral framework.

Furthermore, MIKTA is committed to enhancing coordination to ensure the sustainability of developing countries' agendas across various international forums. MIKTA will continue to advocate key issues such as a sustainable economy, inclusive digital transformation, and developmental rights for all nations.

Additionally, Arrmanatha highlighted the significance of diversifying partnerships to bolster MIKTA's position in the face of global uncertainties.

"As a group of middle powers across regions, MIKTA has a strategic role in ensuring a fairer and more representative global order," he emphasized.

The MIKTA FMM concluded with a Joint Communiqué that reaffirmed commitments to democracy, international law, and multilateralism. It also urged the resolution of conflicts and humanitarian issues in Palestine, particularly in Gaza.

Moreover, the Joint Communiqué expressed support for peaceful resolutions to global conflicts, human rights protection, migrant workers' rights, and the strengthening of women's participation in global development.
