TEMPO.CO, JakartaDeputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta spoke about the second-stage negotiation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. He mentioned that several potential obstacles may arise in this stage.

"This process has just entered the second stage. Certainly, there are many technical obstacles in understanding between the two parties," said Anis while attending the signing of Indonesia's campaign support for Palestine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Nevertheless, Anis is confident that the second-stage negotiation process can proceed well. "We are confident, God willing, that this second-stage agreement can be executed, because the exchange of hostages has occurred from both sides," he stated.

Anis hopes that all parties involved in the ceasefire negotiation, including Israel and Hamas, can adhere to the agreed-upon terms. "The first stage has passed. We pray that this second stage will proceed smoothly," he said.

According to Reuters reports, Israel and Hamas reached a complex ceasefire deal last month, which will be implemented in three stages, effectively halting the fighting in Gaza.

So far, Hamas has released 18 hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian citizens held in Israeli prisons and detention. There are still more than 70 hostages being held in Gaza.

During the 15-month genocide in Gaza, at least 47,400 Palestinians, mostly women and children, were killed. Furthermore, the renowned medical journal The Lancet reported that the death toll in Gaza had exceeded 70,000 people as of June 2024.
