TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas producer PT Pertamina EP, in cooperation with the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), has begun construction of a new gas storage and processing facility in West Java.
The facility, with a capacity of 8 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), is part of Indonesia’s broader efforts to boost upstream oil and gas production and reduce reliance on energy imports amid continued volatility in global energy markets.
The project forms part of the development of the Bambu Merah Field and is integrated with the Cilamaya Utara Gathering Station in Subang Regency, West Java.
Pertamina EP’s Zone 7 Project Manager, Ahmad Firdaus Fasa, said the facility will include an 8 MMSCFD gas scrubber, a 9 MMSCFD gas dehydration unit, and three gas compressor units, each with a capacity of 0.5 MMSCFD.
“The fabrication phase is a critical milestone in boosting oil and gas production capacity,” Ahmad said in a written statement on Sunday, January 25, 2026. He added that all construction work is being carried out with strict adherence to safety standards, quality control, and regulatory requirements.
Fabrication is being undertaken by PT Bahana Karya Mandiri and is scheduled to take 280 calendar days, starting on December 5, 2025. Once completed, the gas dehydration facility will be transported to the Cilamaya Utara Gathering Station in September 2026.
“The construction and commissioning phases are expected to take around two months, with the facility targeted to begin operations by November 2026,” Ahmad said.
The initial stage of the project was marked by a first-cutting ceremony at the fabricator’s workshop in Cikarang, West Java, in December 2025, signaling the official start of fabrication work on the main production facilities.
The fabrication scope includes the construction of both the gas dehydration unit and the gas scrubber, which are designed to increase gas processing capacity from the Bambu Merah Field before distribution to downstream networks.
Ahmad said the project is part of the Optimization Program for the Development of the Bambu Merah–Cilamaya Selatan fields and has received funding approval from SKK Migas.
Once operational, oil produced from the field will be sent to the Cilamaya Booster Station, while the gas will be processed to meet sales specifications before being delivered to the Cilamaya Gas Compressor Station. There, it will be combined with gas production from surrounding fields before distribution.
