TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with legendary French footballer Zinedine Zidane during his overseas trip this week, holding discussions on football development in Indonesia on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
The meeting took place on Thursday, January 22, 2026, after Prabowo delivered a speech at the WEF. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the president met Zidane shortly after presenting his economic vision, dubbed “Prabowonomics,” to global leaders and business figures attending the forum.
“After presenting the concept of Prabowonomics at the World Economic Forum, President Prabowo met with the legendary footballer and renowned French coach, Zinedine Zidane,” Teddy said in a statement posted on the Cabinet Secretariat’s official social media account on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
According to Teddy, the discussion lasted approximately 45 minutes and focused on football and its development in Indonesia.
Prabowo outlined his ambition to strengthen grassroots football by expanding access to proper playing facilities, including building more football fields at schools across the country.
The president also sought Zidane’s views and recommendations on advancing Indonesian football.
“President Prabowo conveyed his strong commitment to improving national football and requested input from Zidane regarding its development,” Teddy said.
Photos shared by the Cabinet Secretary showed Prabowo and Zidane seated together in Davos, appearing engaged in conversation.
In one image, the two are seen shaking hands and smiling. Teddy also shared a separate photo of himself with the former Real Madrid coach.
The Davos visit marked Prabowo’s first appearance at the World Economic Forum since taking office as president, succeeding Joko Widodo. At the annual gathering, he delivered a special address to international delegations and global business leaders.
The WEF was part of Prabowo’s broader overseas agenda. During the same trip, he held meetings with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III in London, and with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
Prabowo’s visit to France was brief, lasting less than five hours. Following the stop in Paris, he returned to Indonesia, arriving at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Saturday evening, January 24, 2026.
