TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has confirmed that the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) will not be merged with the Sovereign Wealth Fund, Danantara. The possibility of the merger arises as lawmakers are discussing the revision of SOEs Law No. 1 of 2025.
Dasco dismissed the possibility of a merger, stating, "No (merging with Danantara), it (the Ministry) will remain separate," Dasco said in the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Instead of a merger, Dasco mentioned that the Ministry of SOEs would have its status downgraded into an organizing body. The Ministry of SOEs currently acts as a regulator as most operational functions of SOEs are carried out by Danantara.
Therefore, the nomenclature change of the Ministry of SOEs has been confirmed. "It will be called the organizing body of state-owned enterprises," said the Gerindra Party politician.
The SOEs Bill, according to Dasco, will address the Constitutional Court ruling that barred ministers and deputy ministers from holding concurrent positions as commissioners.
The SOEs Bill has been listed in the Priority National Legislation Program or Prolegnas for 2025. Lawmakers have received Presidential Letter Number R62 dated September 19 regarding the Fourth Amendment of Law Number 19 of 2023 concerning SOEs.
Previously, Chair of the House Legislation Body Bob Hasan revealed the possibility of the Ministry of SOEs merging with Danantara, with a shift in authority.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi also said on September 19 that the government is considering merging the Ministry of SOEs with Danantara, albeit a review of the proposal is underway.
This Gerindra politician mentioned various considerations for the merger, including the ongoing supervision and management improvement conducted by Danantara.
