Indonesia's US Ambassador Pick Awaits Prabowo's Final Approval

7 hours ago 7

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House Commission I (DPR) member, Ahmad Muzani, said the appointment of the Indonesian ambassador to the United States is pending a letter from President Prabowo Subianto to be sent to the Parliament. He mentioned that Prabowo has been looking at the vacant position of the U.S. ambassador.

"Important countries such as the United States now have a vacant position, and I believe President Prabowo has considered filling it," the People's Consultative Assembly Chairperson said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Despite this, the Gerindra Party politician admitted that he had not heard the name of the person who will occupy Indonesian representative position in the U.S. "We in the DPR, in Commission I, are waiting for the letter conveyed by the President to see who will be appointed as the candidate for the Indonesian Ambassador to the United States," Muzani said.

Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, the House Deputy Chairperson, stated that the government has already identified the figure who will fill the Indonesian ambassadorial seat to the U.S. The government has even submitted the name to the Parliament.

"The name has been at the DPR, but we will wait for the official announcement from the government," Dasco said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Currently, he is reluctant to disclose the identity of the figure.
