TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - VinFast, the Vietnam-based electric car manufacturer, is expanding its business network in Indonesia by building a factory in Subang, West Java. The 170-hectare plant with an initial investment of US$200 million is expected to employ 1,000-3,000 workers.
"With a population of more than 280 million and a strong pro-EV policy, Indonesia is a strategic choice for us," said VinFast Indonesia's CEO, Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto in a written statement on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Kariyanto said Indonesia is VinFast's 'second home' due to being one of the largest automotive markets in Southeast Asia, with vehicle sales reaching over one million units per year.
Their sales are supported by the government's target of having two million electric vehicles on the road by 2030.
The Subang plant is expected to commence technical operation by the end of 2025, as well as train local engineers and prioritize domestic components. This factory also bridges technology transfer from VinFast to Indonesia.
VinFast is also building a partner ecosystem, including financial institutions, dealers, logistics, and after-sales service providers, to fully integrate with the national economy. Vietnam's electric cars have also been introduced to Indonesia through the Green SM electric taxi.
VinFast's product line includes VF 3, VF 5, VF 6, VF e34, and VF 7, to meet various consumer needs, from urban vehicles to family SUVs. Karyano stated that the company separates the battery price from the vehicle price. VinFast offers a lifetime warranty for maintenance, repair, and unlimited battery replacement regardless of mileage.
"This is not just a pricing policy, this is how we eliminate the fear of costs and the unknowns, and invite people to enter the era of future mobility," said Kariyanto.
VinFast offers a vehicle warranty program for up to 10 years or 200,000 kilometers, as well as a battery warranty for up to 10 years without mileage limitations, unlike competitors, which usually offer only 3-5 years with strict limitations. VinFast's battery subscription program includes free maintenance and replacement services if the battery capacity drops below 70 percent.
The company also introduces a buyback guarantee program with a resale value scheme that can increase by up to 90 percent of the initial price. Through this approach, VinFast aims to gain the trust of consumers worried about the costs and reliability of new technology.
Currently, VinFast products include various electric SUVs, electric scooters, and electric buses. The company, listed on the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ) under the code VFS, has a primary focus on the markets in North America, Europe, and Asia.
