TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, announced that Indonesia has submitted its Initial Memorandum document to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This submission took place during the ministerial-level meeting of the OECD Council 2025, held in Paris, France, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
"This is certainly a significant moment because Indonesia becomes the first Southeast Asian country to both obtain accession and complete the Initial Memorandum," Airlangga said during a virtual press conference from Paris on Wednesday night, June 4, 2025. He expressed optimism for a smooth accession process.
The OECD currently comprises 38 member countries. According to Airlangga, the accession process typically spans several years, ranging from five to ten. He cited Argentina as an example, noting that it submitted its Initial Memorandum in 2022 and is still undergoing the process.
The Initial Memorandum document provides a comprehensive assessment of Indonesia's existing policies and standards in relation to various OECD instruments. Indonesia's document features 32 chapters covering 25 OECD policy areas. Airlangga asserted that most of Indonesia's regulations already align with OECD standards.
Another crucial requirement set by the OECD for prospective members is adherence to the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention. Airlangga confirmed that Indonesia has already submitted a formal letter from the Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), expressing the nation's clear intention to join this vital anti-corruption convention. "This is one of the main requirements for OECD membership," he emphasized.
