TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of major tourism and cultural events across several Indonesian cities have been postponed, largely due to public protests in late August and early September 2025 that led to widespread disruption. Event organizers were compelled to reschedule after assessing security and transportation availability.
The events impacted by these delays include Pasar Kangen Yogyakarta, the Asia Africa Festival in Bandung, the Pinisi Festival in Bulukumba, and Corvus Vigilia on Onrust Island in Jakarta. Each event has a unique theme, from culinary and cultural to maritime and fantasy.
Here are the new schedules for these festivals and cultural gatherings in various Indonesian cities.
1. Pasar Kangen Yogyakarta
Pasar Kangen Yogyakarta is a popular annual festival celebrating traditional food and crafts at Yogyakarta Cultural Park. The event showcases local snacks, handicrafts, and traditional art performances. According to an official post from @pasarkangenjogja, the festival, originally set for September 7–13, 2025, has been moved to September 18–24, 2025.
Purwiati, the Head of Yogyakarta Cultural Park, noted that this year's festival will run for a full week, which is shorter than its usual 10-day duration. "For seven full days, Pasar Kangen Yogyakarta will once again be held for residents and tourists, daily from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.," said Purwiati on Friday, September 12, 2025.
2. Asia Africa Festival
This annual festival, held on Jalan Asia Afrika in Bandung, is known for its cultural parade featuring countries from the Asia-Africa Conference. Information from the Instagram account @asiaafricafestivalofficial confirmed that the event, originally scheduled for September 5–7, 2025, has been postponed indefinitely. The organizers did not provide a specific reason for the delay.
"For the convenience of all parties, the implementation of Asia Africa Festival 2025 has been temporarily postponed. The schedule for AAF 2025 will be announced in due course," the post explained.
3. Pinisi Festival
This maritime festival in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, celebrates the tradition of building Pinisi ships and local maritime culture. Posts from @pemkabbulukumba and @festival_pinisi announced the event's postponement from September 11–13, 2025, to October 23–25, 2025.
This delay was not due to the protests but was a direct result of a proposal from the South Sulawesi Provincial Government to make the event grander. The festival will now also feature a creative economy exhibition.
4. Corvus Vigilia Onrust Island
Corvus Vigilia is a fantasy and history-themed festival held in the tourist area of Onrust Island in Jakarta's Thousand Islands. The event combines performing arts, cosplay, and historical island tours.
According to @corvusvigilia, the event, originally slated for August 31, 2025, was moved to September 28, 2025, to ensure the safety of participants and the readiness of transportation.
"We made this difficult decision for the common good," the organizers stated in their post. They provided two options for ticket holders: a full refund or a chance to wait for the new schedule.
While these postponements are disappointing for festival enthusiasts who had eagerly anticipated the events, the organizers are working to ensure a more organized, safe, and comfortable experience when the festivals finally take place.
This postponement is quite disappointing for festival enthusiasts who have been eagerly waiting for the series of events. However, behind the rescheduling, the organizers are trying to ensure a more organized, safe, and comfortable experience when the event finally takes place.
