1. Prabowo Opts Against Special Team to Investigate August Riots, Says Minister Yusril
President Prabowo Subianto has decided against forming an independent government investigative team to look into the riots that occurred in the last week of August 2025. This announcement was made by Yusril Ihza, the Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Security Affairs.
"If anyone asks whether it is necessary to form one or not, the president said it is not necessary," Yusril stated at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
The former Chair of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) noted that the National Conscience Movement had previously proposed the formation of an investigative team to President Prabowo. While Yusril said the president saw the proposal as good, reasonable, and worth considering, Prabowo ultimately clarified that a joint fact-finding team was not needed.
2. Prabowo to Launch Geothermal Power Plant in Sumatra's Muara Enim
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia stated that President Prabowo Subianto will soon inaugurate the Unit II Lumut Balai Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) in Muara Enim, South Sumatra. The plant has a capacity of 55 megawatts (MW) and has been in operation since the end of June 2025.
"The inauguration will be conducted directly by the President. I have requested his time, possibly by the end of this month or at the latest, next month," said Bahlil at the Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition at the JCC Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
PLTP Lumut Balai Unit II officially entered the commercial operation date (COD) phase on June 30, 2025. The plant is capable of producing electricity above its installed capacity, at around 56 MW. The plant is operated by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk. (PGE).
3. Indonesia Launches Civil Society Network to Advance Women's Role in Peace
More than 100 representatives from civil society, government, academia, media organizations, and development partners gathered in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17, for the launch of the Indonesian Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Network for Advancing Women, Peace, and Security Agenda. The network marks an important milestone in Indonesia's efforts to advance women's roles and leadership in maintaining peace while building momentum in commemorating the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.
The civil society network, initiated by AMAN Indonesia and joined by over 80 civil organizations, has established a governance structure and a five-year roadmap to strengthen and expand Indonesia’s work in the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. It will bolster coordination, advocacy, and knowledge sharing among CSOs that work with peacebuilding, conflict prevention, humanitarian response, and gender-responsive approaches to preventing violent extremism.
