TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Maemuna Center Indonesia, in partnership with the Aqsa Working Group (AWG), has launched an initiative to construct the Indonesian Mother and Child Hospital (RSIA) in Gaza City, Palestine. This announcement was made during a press conference at the Diplomacy Canteen in the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Friday, March 14, 2025.

This effort stems from the critical health crisis in Gaza. According to data from OCHA (United Nations Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), 19 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza have been forced to close due to Israeli attacks since October 2023, and tragically, over 1,000 medical personnel have fallen victim.

"The building of the Indonesian RSIA is more than just constructing health infrastructure; it is a tangible expression of solidarity from the Indonesian people to Palestine. This is a practical step to ensure that women and children in Gaza have access to essential health services," said Onny Firyanti Hamidi, Chair of the Indonesian Maemuna Center.

The hospital construction requires Rp402 billion, with an initial fundraising target of Rp201 billion. Numerous humanitarian organizations and alms or zakat institutions in Indonesia have pledged their support for this fundraising effort.

The hospital will be built on 5,000 square meters of waqf land donated by the Palestinian Ministry of Health. It will be located near the Al-Rantisi Children's Hospital in Gaza City. Featuring four floors, including a basement, the total building area will be 10,310 square meters.

Ahrul Tsani Fathurrahman, Director of the Middle East at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized his support for the Indonesian RSIA construction, which is a part of the Indonesian National Campaign for Palestine. "We commend the Aqsa Working Group and Maemuna Center for initiating and driving this great endeavor," he said.

This project has garnered strong support from various entities, including the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Indonesian Alms Agency (Baznas), and the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Dr. dr. Siti Fadilah Supari, SP.JP (K), former Indonesian Minister of Health and current Patron of the Indonesian Maemuna Center, also supports this initiative.

M. Anshorullah, Chairperson of the AWG Presidium, called upon all sectors of the nation to contribute to this humanitarian action. "The Indonesian RSIA will stand as a symbol of the Indonesian people's love for the Palestinian people," he declared.

Through the RSIA construction, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to assisting in the restoration of the Palestinian health system and demonstrates a powerful symbol of humanitarian solidarity from the Indonesian people towards the people of Palestine.
