TEMPO.CO, Astana, Kazakhstan - The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Astana, Capital of Kazakhstan, has emerged as the overall champion of the 2025 ASEAN Bowling Championship, hosted by the Malaysian Embassy in Astana on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
The friendly tournament, held annually under the Astana ASEAN Committee (AAC), brought together teams from ASEAN member states represented in Kazakhstan — including the embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The event aims to strengthen solidarity and cooperation among ASEAN missions through sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Competing in a warm and lively atmosphere, the Indonesian Embassy’s team delivered an outstanding performance across multiple categories, securing the highest overall points and taking home the ASEAN Bowling Championship trophy.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Dr. M. Fadjroel Rachman, who also serves as Chair of the Astana ASEAN Committee, expressed his gratitude to the organizers and the Indonesian team for their success.
“We would like to thank the Malaysian Embassy for hosting this event. We also thank the Indonesian Embassy’s bowling team in Astana for their excellent performance, winning the overall championship and the rotating trophy,” said Ambassador Fadjroel. “This is not about winning or losing, but rather an effort to foster the spirit of ASEAN solidarity in Central Asia.”
The ambassador emphasized that activities like the ASEAN Bowling Championship play a key role in deepening regional friendship and cooperation beyond Southeast Asia. “Through sports diplomacy, ASEAN continues to build understanding, unity, and shared goodwill even far from home,” he added.
The Indonesian Embassy in Astana has actively promoted ASEAN cultural and sports diplomacy in Kazakhstan, one of Eurasia’s most dynamic and resource-rich nations. Earlier this year, Indonesia also clinched the overall championship title at the ASEAN Badminton Championship, another annual sporting event under the AAC. The 2025 edition of the tournament is scheduled for October 25–26, with around 300 athletes expected to compete.
Beyond sports, the embassy has also championed cultural initiatives. On August 23, 2025, the Indonesian Embassy, together with ASEAN missions in Kazakhstan and the Indonesian Ministry of Culture, hosted the ASEAN Summer Festival 2025 at the Indonesian Cultural House in Astana. The event drew large crowds and featured a Pencak Silat performance led by Cecep Arif Rahman — a renowned martial artist and international actor known for his roles in The Raid 2 and John Wick 3.
Through such dynamic initiatives in both sports and culture, the Indonesian Embassy continues to reinforce ASEAN’s spirit of unity, friendship, and regional identity in Central Asia.
