TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Indonesian citizens in the Philippines to remain vigilant and prioritize personal safety following a 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the southern island of Mindanao on Friday morning, October 10, 2025.

Judha Nugraha, Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Indonesian Consulate General in Davao City, located near the quake’s epicenter, has been coordinating closely with local authorities and the Indonesian community.

“The Consulate General has advised Indonesian citizens to stay alert for potential aftershocks,” Judha said in a written statement on Friday, as quoted by Antara.

He confirmed that no Indonesian nationals have been reported among the victims. Approximately 8,700 Indonesians are known to reside in southern Philippines.

Judha added that the Consulate General continues to monitor developments and has urged citizens to follow official guidance from local authorities and to immediately contact the Consulate in case of an emergency.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake’s epicenter was located about 127.9 kilometers from Davao City at a depth of 58 kilometers. The powerful tremor initially prompted a tsunami warning, which was later lifted by Philippine authorities.

According to local officials, three people were confirmed dead as a result of the earthquake.

The Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered all relevant government agencies to activate emergency communication networks and coordinate disaster response efforts in the affected areas.

“Search, rescue, and relief operations have been prepared and will be deployed once conditions are deemed safe,” Marcos said, adding that government departments have mobilized aid supplies and emergency medical services.
