TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian cruise ship Celestia has made it into the list of The World's Greatest Places of 2025 by Time magazine, under the accommodation category. The category includes 51 accommodations from around the world, and Celestia is the only Indonesian accommodation recognized by the New York-based magazine.

The World's Greatest Places of 2025 features various hotels, cruise ships, museums, parks, and more, divided into two categories: places to stay and places to visit. Each year, Time invites nominations from its network of correspondents and international contributors, and through a registration process, taking into account places that offer new and interesting experiences.

The editorial team of Time magazine evaluates based on relevance, innovation, impact, and success. As a result, there are 100 destinations to stay and visit in 2025. "The tourism industry rebounded to pre-pandemic levels in 2023 and surged in 2024, setting consumer spending records and contributing about 9 to 10 percent of global GDP, and this year, the industry is striving to make even more money," said the editor of Time in a statement on its website.

Pinisi Cruise Ship for Surfers

In the review, this cruise ship serves as a means for surfers seeking waves in the Indonesian archipelago and multi-generational family tourists who want to communicate outside the network. The ship carries a double-masted pinisi design inspired by traditional Nusantara ships.

According to the official Celestia Yacht website, the pinisi ship has a length of 45 meters with seven cabins and 17 internal crew members. This accommodation and transportation are specially designed for sailing in the Indonesian archipelago, a project by siblings Jason Tabalujan and Jasmine Chong during the pandemic.

The ship is manually built from ironwood and teak by craftsmen in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, renowned as a center for traditional shipbuilding. Its design is inspired by centuries-old traditions. This style is a form of tribute to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as the starting point for exploring remote areas in Indonesia.

The exterior of Celestia is designed to blend with the natural beauty of the Indonesian archipelago. The spacious deck offers sea views, sunbathing areas, stargazing, and exploring the natural beauty. The interior is designed with a simple yet elegant style, featuring handwoven Javanese rattan panels, manually glazed Balinese tiles, and tropical toile jacquard textiles designed by Chong.

"Designing a ship is like dressing someone: You really want to create a special and memorable experience," said Jasmine Chong, the owner and fashion designer based in New York.

Pinisi Cruise Ship Routes

The charter journeys of this ship can be customized through the Coral Triangle region, ranging from three to 14 nights, catering to various special interests of passengers, whether retracing the history of remote Spice Islands such as Banda Neira and Pulau Rhun, experiencing authentic Indonesian cuisine led by renowned chef from Bali, Wayan Kresna Yasa, or enjoying surfing and diving experiences through the charter journey.

Passengers of this pinisi ship can also visit various other destinations, such as Raja Ampat and Komodo National Park to see coral reefs with biodiversity. In addition, snorkelers can swim with whale sharks in Teluk Saleh, Sumbawa, watch a flock of bats under the starry sky, or see local children rowing traditional boats.
