Indonesian Fugitive Linked to Rohingya Trafficking Caught in Turkey

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian National Police's International Relations Division has arrested an Indonesian citizen who is a fugitive in a human trafficking case. The fugitive, identified as HS, was apprehended in Turkey. He is suspected of involvement in smuggling Rohingya citizens into Indonesia.

Interpol's National Central Bureau (NCB) Secretary, Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, stated that HS had been placed on Red Notice status. "We have successfully repatriated HS, an Indonesian citizen who was a fugitive and fled to Turkey," Untung said in a written statement on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

HS was arrested on January 21, 2026. HS is suspected of being involved in arranging the entry of Rohingya citizens into Indonesia via Aceh. Untung stated that the Rohingya citizens were also trafficked abroad. "Those who successfully arrive in Aceh will be smuggled back to several other countries," he said.

According to Untung, HS has expanded his operations overseas. Some of the countries he has served as routes for are Malaysia and India.
