TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Meutya Viada Hafid, is coordinating with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to block 23,929 bank accounts involved in online gambling activities. The blocking of tens of thousands of accounts is the result of cyber patrols and reports from the public received by the Ministry of Communication and Digital in recent times.

Meutya stated that the blocking of these bank accounts signifies the government's commitment to eradicating online gambling. "We want to ensure that the flow of funds from illegal activities like online gambling is completely cut off," Meutya said in a written statement on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

According to Meutya, blocking these 23,000 accounts can disrupt the financial transaction route between the public and online gambling site operators. She also urged the public to actively report gambling sites and accounts through complaint channels such as aduankonten.id and cekrekening.id.

In addition to blocking bank accounts, the Ministry of Communication and Digital is limiting negative content in the digital space, including online gambling promotions. From October 2024 to July 2025, around 1.7 million online gambling contents have been blocked by the ministry.

Despite this, the circulation of online gambling sites is still rife and continues to be promoted on various social media platforms. Meutya stated that online gambling operators are becoming more creative in finding loopholes that cannot be traced by content-crawling systems, allowing them to continue promoting online gambling.

Previously, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) revealed that the value of online gambling transactions in the first quarter of 2025 reached Rp47 trillion. The head of PPATK, Ivan Yustiavandana, stated that the value of online gambling transactions in the first quarter of this year decreased by approximately 80 percent compared to the same quarter in 2024.

"The value of transactions, which previously reached Rp90 trillion from January to March 2024, has now sharply dropped to Rp47 trillion," Ivan said in a written statement on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
