TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI) and the Labor Party are planning to stage another rally on January 15, 2026. The upcoming protest is part of a series of actions rejecting the 2026 wage policy, which was deemed insufficient to meet decent living standards.

President of KSPI, Said Iqbal, stated that the plan to rally at the House of Representatives follows several steps previously taken by the workers, from demonstrations to submitting a protest letter to the governors, and preparing a lawsuit at the State Administrative Court (PTUN).

"We expect another rally on January 15, at the House of Representatives complex," Said said during a labor protest in Jakarta on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

According to Said, the 2026 minimum wage policy remains a fundamental driver of labor mobilization. He believes that the wage determination does not yet reflect decent living standards and could suppress workers' welfare. "Don't buy cheap wages," he said.

Said explained that before planning the rally, KSPI had submitted a protest letter rejecting the wage policy to the Governors of Jakarta and West Java. If there is no response within the specified time frame, KSPI will proceed with the PTUN lawsuit. "January 15 will be concurrent with the PTUN lawsuit," he said.

Said stated that the labor protest on January 15 will also be held simultaneously in several regions. He mentioned that mass pressure remains needed to oversee the legal process and drive policy changes. "On January 15, it will be a nationwide rally," he said.

In addition to the wage issue, KSPI and the Labor Party also voiced their rejection of the indirect regional election proposal, deeming it a setback for democracy.

If these various efforts fail to yield results, KSPI is mulling the option of an international campaign to underscore wage conditions and labor protection in Indonesia.
