TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) resumed dismantling the sea fence in Tangerang, Banten, waters on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. The dismantling of the 30.16-kilometer-long sea fence had been temporarily halted for seven days due to bad weather conditions.
The Head of the Indonesian Navy Information Service, First Admiral I Made Wira Hady, stated that the dismantling of the sea fence, after a week-long halt, was carried out at two locations: Tanjung Pasir, where 1.5 kilometers were dismantled, and Kronjo, where 500 meters of the sea fence had been removed.
As of now, a total of 20.7 kilometers out of the 30.16-kilometer sea fence in Tangerang has been dismantled. Wira said that the sea fence dismantling in the Tangerang waters had faced challenges due to strong winds and high waves.
"However, we have continued the dismantling after considering the weather conditions at the site," Wira said in a written statement on Tuesday, February 4, 2024.
Wira said that the Indonesian Navy is still working to dismantle the entire sea fence spanning the three areas of Tangerang. According to him, this effort is part of the institution's commitment following an order from President Prabowo Subianto.
"The President of Indonesia has ordered the opening of access for fishermen to earn a living and restore their daily livelihood of fishing," said Wira.
A total of 256 personnel have been deployed to continue dismantling the sea fence in Tangerang, consisting of elements from the Indonesian Navy, the Water and Air Police (Polairud), and local fishermen. The Indonesian Navy has deployed several tools for this operation, including 12 rubber boats, one RBB unit, one RHIB unit, one Patkamla, and several fishermen’s boats.
Previously, the dismantling of the sea fence in Tangerang was halted for a week due to weather conditions. However, personnel and dismantling equipment from the Indonesian Navy remained on standby in the area.
