TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is reported to be cutting a number of budgets following President Prabowo Subianto's Instruction Number 1 of 2025 concerning Spending Efficiency. A number of work patterns will also be adjusted in order to tighten their belts.
From information obtained by Tempo, the Ministry of Industry will start implementing Work From Anywhere (WFA) starting Monday. The number of employees working in the office is limited to a maximum of 25 percent—if possible less. However, all echelon 2 leaders are still required to be in the office.
Working hours in the office are also tightened, from 07:30 to 16:00 local time. After that, the office closes. Employees who want to work overtime or overwork are welcome to use the working space on the 1st floor.
From this cut, the remaining operational funds of the Ministry of Industry are only Rp143 billion. This money will be allocated for electricity. Meanwhile, paper is only used for outgoing letters.
A number of official travel costs are eliminated, such as overseas official travel, domestic official travel, and business matching.
When confirmed, Director General of Small and Medium Industries and Miscellaneous Reni Yanita said she was still waiting for the regulation from the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry.
"In fact, we are streamlining electricity and office stationery (ATK) because the budget is very, very limited," she told Tempo, Sunday, February 2, 2025.
However, when asked about the list of budget tightening policies that the Ministry of Industry will take, Reni said it would not be exactly like what is circulating.
"It's not like that either. Activities are directed to continue to be able to be carried out but by changing their form (can be Zoom)," said Reni.
An employee at the Ministry of Industry confirmed that this appeal had been widely circulated in the office group. But he admitted that he did not know the continuation.
Prabowo issued Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2025 concerning Spending Efficiency on January 22, 2025. The Presidential Instruction asks ministries and institutions to cut spending that is considered to have an impact on improving the economy and welfare.
Regional governments are also asked to cut official travel budgets by up to 50 percent. From all these savings, the budget is targeted to save the APBN up to Rp306.6 trillion.
