TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dubai continues to solidify its position as a modern, futuristic, and global destination. Recently, a 377-meter hotel officially opened in the city, boasting striking visual aspects.

Ciel Dubai Marina has broken the record for the world's tallest hotel. Standing tall in the heart of Dubai Marina, United Arab Emirates, the hotel offers a 360-degree panoramic view facing Palm Jumeirah and the Arabian Gulf. Not only that, this hotel enriches the already phenomenal city skyline.

Not Initially Intended to Break Records

Ciel Dubai Marina officially opened on November 15, 2025. Rob Burns, CEO of The First Group as the project developer, revealed that the hotel was not initially designed to be the tallest in the world.

"We knew we wanted to build something spectacular, but we certainly didn’t plan on building the tallest hotel in the world," Burns said, as quoted from People on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Unique Visual Features

One of the most striking visual aspects of this hotel is the distinctive needle-shaped hole at the top, specially designed to reduce wind load.

Designed by the London-based architecture firm, NORR Group, under the leadership of Yahya Jan, this 82-story tower features a distinctive opening at the top called the "eye of the needle." "If you want the height that is great, but how can you shape the building to minimize the wind load? So, by having the cutout we let the wind go through the tower," Burns explained.

The First Group also incorporated the concept of a "small parks" as a social community space throughout the tower, creating a warmer and more intimate environment amidst the vertical grandeur.

The hotel also focuses on sustainability, with integrated features such as rainwater collection and high-efficiency mechanical systems. In addition, structural innovation was applied in the building construction process to meet global green building requirements for Energy Performance and Safety.

Only 200 Room Units Left

Ciel Dubai Marina has 1,004 rooms and suites. However, only 200 units are still available shortly after the launch. Room rates start from US$375 or around Rp6.1 million per night for a deluxe room to US$545 or around Rp8.9 million per night for a king suite.

The facilities include three swimming pools, one of which is an infinity pool on the 76th floor located right in the "eye of the needle," 82 shops, eight restaurants, outdoor multipurpose spaces, a fitness center, and a business center. The naturally lit central atrium through the floor-to-ceiling windows provides a spacious and comfortable impression.

The hotel also encompasses various sky-based experiences, including restaurants and bars, with floor-to-ceiling glass facades ensuring stunning panoramic views.

The Tallest Residential Building in the World

As mentioned earlier, Ciel Dubai Marina has a height of 377 meters. According to Travel and Leisure Asia, this hotel has surpassed the previous record held by the Gevora Hotel in Dubai. Furthermore, this hotel is the second-tallest residential building in the world, after the Central Park Tower in New York.
