TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Abu Rokhmad, stated that the ministry has made various preparations for the Isbat session to determine the start of Ramadan 1446 Hijri. The session is scheduled to take place on February 28, 2025.
"We have prepared for the Isbat session for the past few weeks," Rokhmad said when met at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
The preparations made by the ministry include overall hisab (astronomical calculation) as well as technical aspects of rukyatul hilal (crescent moon sighting). In this Isbat session, the Ministry has designated 125 locations for rukyatul hilal.
Rokhmad stated that he has met with all Islamic community organizations to align understanding about the initial calculation of 1 Ramadan. Therefore, he emphasized that they are ready to carry out the Isbat session on Friday afternoon, February 28.
"Last week, we also met with all Islamic organizations involved in hisab and ru'yat activities, to align perceptions of the initial calculations. So we will then conduct a virtual clarification in the area of rukyatul hilal in the 125 locations," Rokhmad said.
He explained that there are three stages to be carried out in the Isbat Session. The first stage is the presentation of the hilal position data based on astronomical calculations. The second stage is the verification of rukyatul hilal results from various observation points in Indonesia. The last stage is deliberation and decision-making which will be announced to the public.
Rokhmad asked the public to await the results of the Isbat Session and the government's announcement regarding the start of Ramadan 1446 H. He stated that this is in line with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Fatwa No. 2 of 2004 concerning the Determination of the Beginning of Ramadan, Shawwal, and Dzulhijjah.
"We hope that the Muslim community in Indonesia can start Ramadan together this year," he said.
Meanwhile, Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Enforcement (Urais Binsyar) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Arsad Hidayat, stated that based on the hisab data for the beginning of Ramadan 1446 H, ittifaq (conjunction) occurred on Friday, February 28, 2025, around 07:44 AM WIB.
On the same day, the height of the hilal in all regions of Indonesia is already above the horizon between 3 5.91' to 4 40.96', with an elongation angle between 4 47.03' to 6 24.14'.
"With these criteria, astronomically, there is a strong indication that the hilal will be visible," said Arsad.
