TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government through the Department of Transportation continues to implement the motor vehicle-free day or Car Free Day (CFD) during Ramadan 2025 along Jenderal Sudirman Street to M.H Thamrin Street. The activity, which is regularly held every Sunday morning, is only canceled on national holidays and joint leave for Eid al-Fitr.
In addition, the implementation of CFD during Ramadan only allows people to exercise or relax. "The implementation is specifically for those who want to exercise and not for participants and UMKM (MSMEs) in the location," wrote the @dishubdkijakarta Instagram account, cited on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Tempo's observation at the location showed that the community remained enthusiastic in enlivening the CFD activities, even without any traders or additional activities from participants. Until 7:30 AM, hundreds of residents were seen continuously arriving in the Sudirman-Thamrin area.
Several security personnel were seen remaining vigilant in the vicinity of the CFD location. It is not uncommon for them to have to warn people who are exercising to avoid the Transjakarta bus lanes.
Most of the residents who come to CFD during Ramadan come to exercise. Starting from morning runs, cycling, to aerobics. Some also simply want to enjoy the morning atmosphere of Jakarta without vehicle pollution.
The Car Free Day activities during Ramadan start at 6:00 AM. Along the Sudirman to Thamrin area will be closed, and four-wheeled to two-wheeled vehicles are prohibited from passing through the area until 10:00 AM.
