TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rainfall that began Thursday, January 22, 2026, has caused widespread flooding in Jakarta and surrounding areas. As of 03:00 PM local time on Friday, January 23, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that 140 neighborhood units and 16 roads remain submerged.
“The flooding is widespread across five city districts, with water levels varying from area to area,” said Mohamad Yohan, Head of BPBD Jakarta’s Data and Information Center, on Friday.
Flooding by District
In West Jakarta, 40 neighborhood units across 11 sub-districts, including Duri Kosambi, Kapuk, Kedaung Kali Angke, Rawa Buaya, Kedoya Selatan, and Kedoya Utara, remain underwater, with water levels ranging from 15 to 120 centimeters.
The flooding was caused by both heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers, particularly Kali Angke and Kali Pesanggrahan.
South Jakarta has been hit hard, with 63 neighborhood units affected, notably in Petogogan, Pela Mampang, Kuningan Barat, Ulujami, and Pondok Pinang. Water levels in this area reach 30 to 120 centimeters due to the overflow of Kali Krukut, Kali Mampang, Kali Pesanggrahan, and Kali Ciliwung rivers.
In East Jakarta, 30 neighborhood units remain inundated, including Cipinang Melayu, Kampung Melayu, and Bidara Cina, where water levels range from 30 to 100 centimeters.
Central Jakarta has reported five flooded neighborhood units in Bendungan Hilir, with water reaching around 40 centimeters, while North Jakarta has seen two units in Kapuk Muara submerged at similar levels.

BPBD Jakarta has also coordinated the evacuation of residents from affected areas. In West Jakarta, 93 people from 31 families have been moved to Masjid Jami Al Khaeer, Kedaung Kali Angke, and Aula Rusunawa KS Tubun in Kota Bambu Selatan.
In Central Jakarta, 225 residents have taken shelter at multiple locations, including Ruang Publik Terpadu Ramah Anak (RPTRA) Segas, RPTRA Intiland, Aula Masjid Muhajirin, PAUD Nusantara, and Pos RW 02 Karet Tengsin.
