TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta government confirms that it will be offering free homecoming trips for the 2025 Eid al-Fitr despite budget cuts. The head of its Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said a total of 293 buses will serve residents in their Eid homecoming journeys.
"We are ready to serve as many as 22,400 people with passenger transport,” he said during the Jakarta Update occasion at the city hall in Central Jakarta on Monday, February 17, 2025.
The free homecoming program will cover six provinces and 20 cities, with the details as follows: Sumatra with two destination cities, namely Palembang in South Sumatra and Bandar Lampung. Meanwhile, in West Java, travelers can head to Kuningan and Tasikmalaya.
In Central Java, the Eid homecoming service covers ten cities, such as Tegal, Pekalongan, Sragen, and others. Additionally, Syafrin also mentioned Yogyakarta as one of the destination cities. While in East Java, the program serves journeys to five cities, including Blitar and Malang.
"There will be 228 buses available for the return trips,” he said.
The Jakarta government also provides trucks for travelers’ motorcycles, which will allow them to board the buses without leaving their vehicles behind. Syafrin said the government has prepared at least 10 trucks for this service.
"As we know, based on available data, the fatality rate of accidents during Eid al-Fitr motorcycle trips is quite high," he said, adding that the government is preparing to serve 600 motorcycles for the homecoming program.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has allocated a budget of Rp16 billion to organize the upcoming free homecoming program.
