TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta will once again host the Formula E, or Jakarta E-Prix, in 2025, for the third time after the hiatus in 2024. The electric car racing event will be held for the third time in Jakarta after a one-year hiatus in 2024.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said a myriad of people eagerly await the electric car racing event. “Especially for the Formula E fans worldwide and in Jakarta. Thus the preparation must be better and more interesting than before,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday, April 24, 2025, adding that the race event in June is expected to draw many people outside of Jakarta.
He stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government would fully support the organizing of Formula E. “Everyone coming to Jakarta must feel serviced and joyful, especially our guests, wherever they come from,” said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle politician.
In 2024, two major world-class races were canceled in Indonesia, namely the Formula E and the 2024 season of WSBK (Superbike Championship).
The absence of the Formula E race was due to schedule overlaps with the 2024 second-round presidential campaign, which ended up not being necessary as the presidential election was concluded in a single round.
Jakarta was initially scheduled to host the Formula E on June 8, 2024, but the plan was scrapped.
This year, Jakarta will host the Formula E at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC), Ancol, Jakarta, on June 21. This will be the third time Jakarta hosts the Formula E race, since it was initiated by the then Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in 2022.
This event will mark the debut of Gen3 Evo, a revolutionary electric racing car that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.86 seconds, even faster than a Formula 1 car. “The Jakarta E-Prix will be an extraordinary event, with the presence of Gen3 Evo that will redefine the limits of electric racing,” said Gemma Roura, Project Director of Formula E Operations (FEO) for Jakarta E-Prix.
“Acceleration like never before, aerodynamic improvements, and all-wheel drive system will create a more intense and thrilling racing competition,” said Gemma.
