TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the local government will soon discuss the new public transportation fares in the city and its surrounding areas. The adjustment of new public transportation fares in the capital city was proposed by the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ).
Pramono stated that he will review the proposal for fare changes because it is related to Jakarta's regional budget (APBD). "We are currently in the process of discussing the APBD with the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD)," said Pramono to reporters when attending the closing event of free mass circumcision at the Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
The Provincial Government, he said, will study and recalculate the subsidy scheme or financing of public transportation in Jakarta. "In the coming weeks, we will recalculate this."
According to Pramono, the decision regarding the fare changes for Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, and Mikrotrans must consider issues related to subsidies or government assistance budgets.
A politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle stated that the increase in public transportation fares will not affect the fifteen groups of people who are eligible for free transportation.
The fifteen groups of people include Jakarta Provincial Civil Servants and their pensioners, contract workers working in the Jakarta Provincial Government, recipients of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP), specific private employees or workers with salaries according to UMP through Bank DKI, residents of simple rental flats (Rusunawa), and the family empowerment and welfare task force (PKK).
In addition, there are the residents of the Thousand Islands with the Prosperous Family Rice (Raskin) card domiciled in Greater Jakarta, members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), veterans, people with disabilities, elderly residents (above 60 years old), mosque caretakers (marbot), educators and education personnel at Early Childhood Education (PAUD), as well as Jentik Monitoring Officers (Jumantik).
Pramono stated that the government will soon decide on the fare increase while considering its impact on the community. "The Vice Governor and I will surely consider the welfare of our people."
