TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Bobby Rasyid, said that the placement of special train cars for women on electric trains (KRL) is intended to ensure comfort and convenience. "We do not differentiate between the safety levels of women and men," said Bobby at Bekasi Timur Station on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

He stated that PT KAI has always prioritized the comfort, safety, and ease of access for female passengers. He mentioned that the function of special train cars does not reflect differences in passenger safety levels based on gender.

Bobby explained that the separation of train cars into general and special cars for women is based on three factors. The first is an effort to prevent violence against female passengers.

The second aspect is providing easy access for women. The last aspect is to provide more security for women. "It's closer to the available guards, from end to end," he said.

Previously, the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Arifatul (PPPA) Choiri Fauzi proposed evaluating the placement of special train cars for women in KRL trains after the train accident in East Bekasi.

According to her, in order to improve safety, the operator needs to reconsider the position of the women's cars, which are currently at the front and back. "We propose that women's cars be placed in the middle," said Arifatul at the Bekasi City General Hospital on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

As for men's train cars, she said they can be placed at the front and back of the train. Arifatul made the proposal after seeing the composition of victims in the accident. According to her, the majority of the victims were women in the special cars.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia says that placing women's train cars in their current position aims to prevent passenger congestion. However, Arifatul believes that safety aspects should be the main concern in future evaluations. "Safety must be the primary concern," she said.

In addition to proposing an evaluation, the Ministry of PPPA assisted the victims, both medically and psychologically. This assistance is needed because some victims experienced trauma as a result of the incident.

Arifatul said that a number of victims experienced trauma and required special assistance. According to her, this condition is an important note for her ministry to strengthen the protection of women, including in public transportation aspects.
