TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's railway company PT KAI has run a comprehensive railway inspection on Wednesday, dispatching the Inspection Train (KAIS), including in the Yogyakarta operational region. KAI also took notes about extreme weather conditions that loom over the Christmas and New Year holidays this year.

Deputy President Director of KAI, Dody Budiawan, said the inspection is aimed at maintaining the reliability of KAI during the holiday transport period from December 18 to January 4, 2026. The company focused on inspecting railway lines, bridge conditions, signaling systems, soil stability, and the facility readiness at train stations.

"We ensure that all facilities, services, and systems run optimally. Today's inspection aims to check the tracks, railway lines, and ensure that everything is safe for the Christmas and New Year holidays," said Dody when met by reporters during the inspection at Solo Balapan Station today.

Officers record the findings during the inspection, including checking bridge structures, track ballasts, drainage, and the guard posts.

Dody mentioned that the inspection also served as preparation for passenger surge during the holiday. KAI will operate an additional 54 trains nationwide.

Dody mentioned that KAI also anticipated the impact of heavy downpours that have continued to occur in various regions in the past few weeks. He said that KAI intensified supervision in the areas identified as 'special attention areas' as a precaution.

Director of Infrastructure Management at KAI, Heru Kuswanto, added that additional officers are deployed to guard 24 hours. They are tasked with monitoring the impact of rain or landslides in vulnerable areas along the railway lines.

"Especially along the rivers, cliffs, and flood hotspots," he said, adding that any potential disturbance must be swiftly detected to avoid impact on the train journey.

KAI also continues to monitor information from BMKG and coordinate with local governments to ensure the situation remains under control.

"We have deployed 1,189 extra personnel for railway security, as part of the preparation for extreme weather across all operational regions," he said.
