TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operation Area 1 Jakarta has expanded its long-distance train services to accommodate the expected surge in passengers during the 1446H/2025 Eid transportation period.
From March 21 to April 11, 2025, the total number of long-distance train journeys has risen to 1,858, including additional train services, with an average of 84 trips per day.
Ixfan Hendriwintoko, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Operation Area 1 Jakarta, stated that the increase aims to meet passenger demand, particularly during peak homecoming travel dates.
"KAI Operation Area 1 Jakarta has scheduled 32 additional long-distance train trips on specific dates, March 26 to 29 and April 4 to 7, 2025, bringing the daily total to 87 trips during that period," he announced in an official statement on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
To further accommodate passengers, KAI has also increased seating capacity.
"Initially, the total available seats were 982,784. Now, this number has risen to 1,009,642, reflecting a 3 percent increase, with a daily average of 45,893 seats," Ixfan added.
As of now, 520,768 tickets have been sold, with an occupancy rate of 52 percent. "We encourage travelers planning to use trains for homecoming trips to book tickets early, especially for peak dates," he advised.
Gambir and Pasar Senen stations remain the primary departure points for long-distance train passengers. From Gambir Station alone, there are 990 scheduled train journeys, offering 445,316 seats. "On average, 20,242 seats are available daily, with the current occupancy rate at 39 percent," Ixfan explained.
Meanwhile, Pasar Senen Station serves 868 train journeys with a seating capacity of 564,326 seats. "At Pasar Senen Station, there are 25,651 seats available on average per day, with an occupancy rate of 60 percent," he added.
Before the peak of the Eid homecoming rush, the volume of long-distance train trips during the period from March 21 to 30, 2025 amounted to 846 trips with a seating capacity of 460,040 seats. Out of this number, 340,112 tickets have been sold, with an occupancy rate of 74 percent.
"The peak density is expected to occur on March 29, 2025, with an occupancy rate of 100 percent at Gambir and Pasar Senen Stations," Ixfan said.
