TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has raised concerns over the slow progress in investigating the pig head terror incident targeting Tempo. The magazine’s editor-in-chief, Setri Yasa, reported the case to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) on Friday, March 21.
“It’s been nearly a week, yet there’s no visible progress the public can accept,” said Komnas HAM Deputy Chair Abdul Haris Semendawai at the commission’s office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, March 27.
Abdul Haris questioned the sluggish pace, emphasizing that the incident took place in Jakarta—not in a remote area with limited access to data or evidence. “It shouldn’t be difficult to gather the necessary information,” he said.
National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo had previously instructed Bareskrim Chief Comr. Gen. Wahyu Widada to handle the case. Komnas HAM remains hopeful that this directive will soon yield results. “We’re optimistic this case can be resolved within a reasonable timeframe,” Abdul Haris stated.
Beyond demanding legal clarity, Komnas HAM urged public support to protect journalists and prevent further violence against the media. “If we don’t address this together, incidents like this will keep happening,” he warned.
Komnas HAM stressed that police transparency in this investigation is a crucial test for law enforcement and press freedom in Indonesia.
Last week, Tempo was subjected to terror involving a pig’s head and dead rats. The first incident occurred on Wednesday, March 19, when a motorcycle courier delivered a Styrofoam-lined cardboard box. The courier, wearing a black jacket and a helmet from a ride-hailing app, addressed the package to Francisca Rosana (Cica), a political reporter and host of Tempo's Bocor Alus Politik. Inside was a severed pig’s head.
Setri Yasa reported the incident to Bareskrim on Friday, March 21. However, the following day, Tempo received another package—this time containing six dead rats. The box, wrapped in red rose-patterned gift paper, was discovered by a cleaning staff member on Saturday, March 22, at around 8:00 AM.
