TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 97th Academy Awards have officially revealed this year’s winners, with the prestigious Oscar trophies handed out at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 2, 2025, local time.
Stealing the spotlight, 'Anora' took home the coveted Best Picture award, triumphing over nine other nominees in the category. This American screwball comedy-drama had a stellar night, securing a total of five Oscars, including Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Actress for Mikey Madison.
Director Sean Baker said on stage, as quoted by Deadline, “If you’re trying to make independent films, please keep doing it. We need more. This is proof.”
'The Brutalist' won in three categories, Best Actor for Adrien Brody, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score. 'Emilia Perez' won two awards, Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldana and Best Original Song for the song 'El Mal' performed by Karla Sofia Gascon.
Brazil won its first Academy Award for I'm Still Here by Walter Salles, which was declared Best International Feature. The film tells the true story of Eunice Paiva's struggle over decades to seek justice after her husband disappeared during Brazil's military dictatorship.
“This goes to a woman who, after a loss suffered during an authoritarian regime, decided not to bend. And to resist. So, this prize goes to her," said Salles as quoted by Variety.
