TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As the 2026 World Cup qualifiers still going strong, 29 teams have advanced to the final rounds, alongside host countries the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The French national team became the latest to qualify, after defeating Ukraine 4-0 at Parc des Princes Paris on Friday, November 14, 2025. Kylian Mbappe starred in this match, scoring two goals.
France leads Group D with 13 points from five matches. With one match remaining, their position will remain secure as they already have a six-point advantage over Iceland, who are in second place. They have qualified for the final round for the eighth consecutive time or the 17th time in total. They have been champions twice, in 1998 and 2018.
France becomes the second team to qualify from Europe, following England who had already qualified earlier.
The 2026 World Cup will use a new format. A total of 48 teams will compete, an increase from the previous 32. So far, only two confederations have completed their qualifications, the South American (Conmebol) and Oceania (OCF). In Asia (AFC) and Africa (CAF), all direct tickets to the final round have been snatched, with only inter-confederation playoff tickets remaining.

The eight teams that have qualified are:

Japan
Jordan
South Korea
Uzbekistan
Saudi Arabia
Qatar.
The inter-confederation playoff slot will be contested by Iraq and the United Arab Emirates. The Indonesian national team has been eliminated in the fourth round.
South America Zone (CONMEBOL)
Allocation: 6 direct tickets + 1 playoff
Teams that have qualified: six.

Brazil
Ecuador
Colombia
Paraguay
Uruguay.
Bolivia has secured a ticket to the inter-confederation playoffs.
Oceania Zone (OFC)
Allocation: 1 direct ticket + 1 playoff
Team that has qualified: 1.
For the first time, a team from Oceania (OFC) has directly qualified for the final round of the World Cup. The team that has qualified is:
New Zealand
New Caledonia will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs. Previously, Oceania relied solely on playoffs to qualify its representatives.
Africa Zone (CAF)
Allocation: 9 direct tickets + 1 playoff
Teams that have qualified: 9.

Nigeria, Gabon, Cameroon, and DR Congo will compete for one inter-confederation playoff ticket in the second round.

Allocation: 16 direct tickets.

England
France.
North, Central America, and Caribbean Zone (CONCACAF)
Allocation: 3 direct tickets + 2 playoffs
Teams that have qualified: 0.
For CONCACAF, apart from the three host teams, three direct slots and two playoff slots are still being contested.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in three countries, namely the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will begin on June 11, 2026 at the Estadio Azteca, Mexico, with the final at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, on July 19, 2026. The group draw is scheduled for December 2025 in Washington, D.C.
