TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Megawati Hangestri couldn't hold back her tears after the fourth match of the South Korean Women's Volleyball League (V-League) 2024/2025 final on Sunday, April 6th. She became the hero who ensured that Red Sparks defeated Pink Spiders with a score of 3-2 (25-20, 24-26, 36-34, 22-25, 15-12).
It was a significant victory as it kept Red Sparks' chances alive for the championship. The score is now level at 2-2, and both teams will compete for the title in the final match on April 8th, 2025.
Megawati once again played a crucial role in this match, just like when she won the third final match two days earlier. While she previously racked up 40 points, in this match, the 25-year-old player scored 38 points. She continues to be the top scorer in these two home games for Red Sparks.
In a post-match interview, Megawati was seen shedding tears. "I am deeply moved to the point of crying. I feel that I and my teammates have done our best because we didn't want to lose," she said, as quoted by STNSports.
She also expressed her deep gratitude. "I could achieve this victory because I have incredible teammates who believe in me," Mega said with a trembling voice.
Mega's impressive performance occurred amid a tight schedule and injuries suffered by the players. She emphasized that strong determination and teamwork were the keys to success. "I pushed myself to the maximum. Not only me, but all players also suffered injuries. However, we were all able to endure and strive hard for this victory," she said.
At the end of the interview, Megawati expressed her gratitude to her closest people who always supported her. "Thank you for being my boyfriend. Thanks to my family, including my parents at home. Thank you for praying for me," she said with deep emotion.
The boyfriend she referred to is Dio Novandra, a finswimming athlete. He won two medals for Indonesia at the 2021 SEA Games.
Dio has been present at the stadium since the third match. At that time, Red Sparks coach Ko Hee-jin even used her boyfriend's name to motivate Megawati. "Mega's boyfriend is here now. I kept telling Mega the name of her boyfriend. His name is Dio. Wouldn't it be a shame if Dio only watched one game? I said, let's play one more set, let's play one more set, and she made it. The power of love is truly amazing," he said after the third match.
