TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Megawati Hangestri was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the third round of the 2024-2025 South Korean Volleyball League (V-League). The Indonesian national team player, who plays for the Red Sparks, edged out her teammate Vanja Bukilic.
The best V-League player was chosen for each round (6 matches). This was determined by a journalists' poll. In the previous two rounds, Pink Spiders star Kim Youn-kyung continued to be the best player.
In the third round, Megawati was more prominent than the queen of South Korean volleyball. She often contributed the most points as her team won the last eight games.
In the six games of the third round, Megawati scored 155 points. Her attack success rate was the highest at 52.8 percent. She also had the highest open spike success rate at 46.9 percent.
In the poll, Mega received 13 out of 31 press votes. She was one vote ahead of Bukilic. Kim Yeon-kyung received two votes, while Laetitia Moma Bassoko and Giselle Silva received one vote each.
This is the second MVP title for Megawati Hangestri in the regular season of the V-League. She was also the top scorer in the first round last season.
The athlete known as Megatron is now in third place with 404 points in the V-League scoring leaderboard. She is only one point behind Moma, the ace of Hillstate. The top scorer is Victoria Danchak (IBK) with 455 points.
Meanwhile, the Red Sparks are in third place in the V-League standings with 34 points from 18 games. They are behind Pink Spiders (43 points from 15 wins) and Hillstate (41 points from 13 wins).
In week 19, Megawati Hangestri will defend the Red Sparks playing at the GS Caltex home ground. The match against the team at the bottom of the standings will take place on January 10, 2025.
