TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced that the free health check-up program will include mental health screening for children. This screening is an early step to identify potential mental health risks.
"The latest health survey results show that 1 in 10 children have anxiety or depression disorders. So, we will conduct a screening for that, too," said Budi at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
In addition to mental health screening, the free health check-up program will also offer cancer screening for individuals over 40 years old in a bid to detect four major diseases.
"Two of the diseases are often experienced by women, namely breast and cervical cancer. Then, for men, [the screening will] detect lung and colorectal diseases," said Budi after meeting with President Prabowo Subianto.
He explained that the program will commence on February 10, 2025, with a target of 280 million people. The free health check-ups will be rolled out gradually. Initially, the program aims to reach 50 to 60 million people. "We hope that the number will increase continuously," said Budi.
The check-ups can be done at 10,000 community health centers (Puskesmas) and 15,000 clinics that have partnered with the Ministry of Health. The program will be divided into two groups: children under 6 years old and children above 6 years old, or school-age children.
For children under 6, check-ups can be done on their birthdays. For school-age children, check-ups can only be done when they start school. "This is so that the community health centers are not overcrowded as Indonesia's population is 280 million," Budi added.
This free health check-up program was initiated by Prabowo. Toddlers, teenagers, adults, and the elderly can all access this program. To use this service, people celebrating their birthdays can visit the nearest community health center with their Identity Card (KTP).
The State Budget 2025 has allocated Rp3.2 trillion to fund the free health check-up program, which is aimed at preventing disease within the community.
