TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rampant MinyaKita findings, whose measure was reduced up to 300 milliliters, has prompted the government to intensively inspect the market to ensure the cooking oil's measure accuracy. Recently, Indonesian Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman again discovered fraud in MinyaKita packaging during a sudden inspection at Tambahrejo Market, Surabaya, East Java on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Amran stated that seven companies were caught reducing the measurement of MinyaKita, which should contain 1 liter. "We found that the oil measurement was reduced, with some containing only 700 milliliters. This hurts the public," said Amran in an official statement on Friday.

The seven companies suspected of producing and packaging MinyaKita cooking oil of less than 1 liter are CV Briva Jaya Mandiri (Ponorogo), CV Bintang Nanggala, KP Nusantara (Kudus), UD Jaya Abadi (Surabaya), CV Aneka Sawit Sukses Sejahtera (Surabaya), CV Mega Setia (Gresik), and PT Mahesi Agri Karya (Surabaya).

According to Faroby Falatehan, a Professor of Economic Policy at Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), these companies are responsible for compensating for damage, pollution, and/or consumer losses based on Article 19 of Law Number 8 Year 1999 concerning Consumer Protection.

Moga Simatupang, the Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Orderliness at the Ministry of Trade, confirmed that consumers who feel aggrieved by receiving MinyaKita of less than 1 liter can claim compensation from the seller.

Moga explained several steps consumers can take to seek compensation for MinyaKita's content deficiencies. "First, those who want to shop safely, ask for a purchase invoice. From there, if they purchase goods that do not match the description, they can file a claim," said Moga in Karawang Regency, West Java, on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

According to Moga, that purchase invoice can serve as undeniable proof of the transaction, including information on the type, price, and location of purchasing MinyaKita. Therefore, when consumers find that the content of MinyaKita does not match the measure standard stated on the packaging, they can revisit the store or seller directly.

However, Moga says the mechanism must involve the supplier if the seller refuses to compensate. "If there is no common ground, usually the trader has a policy of replacing it directly, or coordinating with the distributor later," he said.

In this way, Moga believes that consumers can receive MinyaKita of the liter size according to the price paid in the purchase receipt. Furthermore, Moga also mentioned that the compensation mechanism could be in the form of cash. Referring to the price of MinyaKita at Rp15,700 per liter, consumers can demand that the seller pay compensation for the shortage based on the calculation per 1000 milliliters. "The deficiency can be refunded in cash," said Moga.
