TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A man is facing serious charges for allegedly firing 17 rounds at a vehicle. As reported by CBS News on Sunday, Mordechai Brafman shot at a car carrying two people visiting from Israel, after he claimed to have seen "two Palestinians" in Miami Beach, Florida, United States, over the weekend, according to arrest documents.
Mordechai Brafman, 27, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder for the Saturday night shooting.
Around 9:30 p.m., surveillance video recorded Brafman's truck traveling south on Pine Tree Drive and making a U-turn at 48th Street, where the victims' vehicle stopped just north of the 48th in the left lane.
At this point, Brafman drove past and stopped right in front of them in the right lane, where he exited his vehicle and shot at the victims' vehicle "17 times, unprovoked, striking both victims" as they passed, according to the arrest documents.
One victim was shot in the left shoulder, and the other's left arm was almost hit by a bullet. According to the arrest documents, the victims' statements are consistent with the surveillance video and neither the victims nor Brafman were acquainted.
Brafman then drove to the area near 4887 Pine Tree Dr., where he was caught by responding officers.
At the request of Brafman's attorney, he was not interviewed on the incident.
However, arrest documents noted that when he was caught, Brafman spontaneously stated as he drove his truck, "he saw two Palestinians and shot and killed both."
Law enforcement sources did not say whether the individuals shot were Palestinians or not, only that they were visiting from Israel.
The Instagram account South_Florida_Simchas, which posts about Jewish life, shared a selfie video showing a bullet in a man's left shoulder and stated that the victims were a father and son from Israel and not Palestinians.
On Sunday night, Brafman was still being held at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Corrections Center following his arrest on two second-degree attempted murder charges.
Ironically, on social media, alleged accounts of the victims called for the killing of Arabs in reaction to the shooting.
