Monday Night's Downpour Triggers Floods Across 15 Areas in Depok

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -  Heavy rains on Monday night, March 3, 2025, caused widespread flooding in Depok. According to the Depok Fire and Rescue Department (DPKP), at least 15 neighborhoods were inundated, prompting evacuations.

Denny Romulo Hutauruk, Head of Disaster Management at DPKP, confirmed the affected locations, stating that response teams had been deployed. "Our team is already on-site," he said on Tuesday, March 4.

DPKP data showed that the hardest-hit neighborhoods included Pancoran Mas (4 locations), Limo (2 locations), Sukmajaya (2 locations), Cipayung (3 locations), and Cimanggis (2 locations). In Sawangan, floods struck Perumahan Griya Alif and Perumahan Sawangan Asri.

"Most residents have been evacuated, but some are staying in their multi-story homes," Denny said, urging them to relocate to safer areas.

To facilitate evacuations, DPKP deployed rubber boats and patrolled affected neighborhoods, working alongside the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), police, and military. "Since evacuations took place at night, extra caution was needed," he added.

Denny attributed the flooding to overflowing rivers caused by heavy rainfall and runoff from the Bogor area. Rising waters from Kali Pesanggrahan, Kali Mampang, and other rivers worsened conditions. Water levels varied, reaching up to 1.5 meters in Perumahan Sawangan Asri, the worst-hit neighborhood.

"We are still collecting data on the number of affected households," he said.
