NASCAR star Bubba Wallace has been brandished as 'disrespectful' by fans on social media for his actions during a pre-race national anthem.

The incident occurred prior to the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon - where he finished 22nd, with 16 points.

While focus should have been on the track, many fans were left talking about the actions of Wallace after he appeared to laugh during the national anthem.

It didn't take long for Wallace to feel the wrath of fans on social media, as they quickly piled on and made their thoughts known.

One furious fan wrote: 'Bubba Wallace is such a disrespectful you Man. Or maybe he is just disrespectful to America or he doesn’t know what is considered respect.

'Did anyone else see him laughing at the Invocation and the anthem? NASCAR NEEDS TO FINE HIM'.

Wallace reportedly laughed during a pre-race national anthem on Saturday afternoon

Another said: 'I don't know what Bubba Wallace found was so funny that he had to laugh during the National Anthem. DISGRACEFUL!!!!!!!'

One user responded to the post and attempted to defend Wallace's case however, the user then replied: 'I didn't like the singers version of the National Anthem either.

'I've made my reasons very clear about the disrespectfulness of Bubba Wallace laughing. You DO NOT have to agree with me.

'I love America and I'm proud to be an American. I will call out any celeb that disrespects it'.

The incident comes after Wallace re-ignited his feud with President Donald Trump after appearing uninterested when told the latter was attending the Daytona 500.

'We're here to race,' Wallace said at the Daytona 500 media day. 'Not for the show.'

Wallace and Trump previously feuded in 2020, after the sport rallied around the driver - the only black driver in NASCAR's Cup Series - following the discovery of the noose in his assigned stall at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama

Federal authorities later ruled that the noose had been hanging since the previous October and was not a hate crime

Fans were quick to call out the NASCAR star and claim that he should be handed a fine

Trump went on to say that Wallace should apologize and called the ordeal a 'hoax,' with the driver responding by condemning the President for his 'hate' on social media.

Around that time, Wallace was also an outspoken critic of the Confederate flag, and NASCAR banned the flag from its events after pressure from the driver.

Trump added in a subsequent social media post that the decision to ban the flag had resulted in the 'lowest ratings EVER!' (NASCAR’s ratings had actually increased from previous years, according to Speed Report).
