TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Six houses in Cakung, Cilincing, North Jakarta were burnt down early Wednesday, January 1, 2025. The fire is believed to have been caused by firecrackers during New Year's Eve celebrations in the area.
North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency chief Gatot Sulaeman explained that the firecrackers first hit a hut, and then the fire spread.
"Three semi-permanent houses and three shacks," Gatot Sulaeman confirmed on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
His office received a fire report at 00:23 Jakarta time. The fire department immediately dispatched 40 personnel and eight fire trucks to the site.
Gatot said a 70-year-old victim suffered burns. "Victim Z was taken to Cilincing Hospital for treatment."
The 195-square-meter building that burned was occupied by 15 people from six families. "The losses due to the fire are estimated at Rp294 million," he said.
In addition to Cilincing, a fire happened at the Rawa Badak Utara village office in Koja Regency. The office roof caught fire at around 00:34 a.m., suspected to have been caused by firecrackers.
"The object that caught fire was the roof of the village office measuring 6 square meters due to the fallen firecrackers," he said, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday.
The fire department deployed three fire trucks and 15 firefighters. The fire was extinguished at 00:55 a.m. "The damage caused by the fire is estimated at Rp1 million," he said.
