NFL star Najee Harris suffered a 'superficial eye injury' after a freak accident at a 4th of July event, according to his agent.

Earlier in the week, reports claimed that the Los Angeles Chargers star was the victim of the bizarre mishap and rumors over his condition began to circulate.

Now, Harris' agent has come forward and put the rumors to bed as he confirmed the running back did in fact suffer the injury and provided an update on his availability.

In a statement, agent Doug Hendrickson said: 'Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees.

'Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season'.

The incident occurred in the early hours on July 5th. Police confirmed at the time that more than one person was injured and that some were treated at the scene and later hospitalized.

Back in March, Harris signed a one-year free-agent contract with the Chargers worth up to $9.25 million, according to ESPN.

Prior to that, Harris spent four years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The franchise declined his fifth-year option for 2025 and he left as a free agent.

Last season, he recorded 263 rushing attempts for 1,043 yards. He also managed six touchdowns before eventually leaving the Steelers.
