TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The latest leaks about the Nintendo Switch 2 further clarify the features and specifications of the console that is rumored to be launched this year. As reported by The Verge, documents filed with the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) reveal that the device will be equipped with NFC, Wi-Fi 6, and an additional USB-C port for charging.
The NFC feature on the Switch 2 is said to be placed in the right Joy-Con, as in the previous model. This indicates support for Amiibo figures, allowing players to unlock exclusive in-game content wirelessly.
Furthermore, this new console uses the product code BEE-001, with code BEE-014 for the right Joy-Con and BEE-012 for the left Joy-Con. This pattern follows the naming system previously used by Nintendo for previous devices, such as DMG for Game Boy and HAC for the first Nintendo Switch.
The Switch 2 also brings improvements in connectivity with support for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), which offers higher speeds compared to Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) in the previous generation. However, the FCC documents do not show support for Wi-Fi 7 or Wi-Fi 6E, with testing only covering 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.
Nintendo seems to have added a USB-C port at the top of the device, allowing charging from two sides. Regarding power, the FCC documents indicate that the Switch 2 still has a maximum charging limit of 15V, but also lists an AC adapter of up to 20V, which likely supports USB-C Power Delivery (PD). However, there is no specific information about the charging wattage.
Nintendo is still keeping official details about this console under wraps, including its release date. However, the company has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be released this year.
